Are you worried about potential fire damage from the “fire season?” Do you feel like you’re prepared if something should happen? Here at Scope Environmental, one of our specialties is fire damage cleanup Los Angeles. After fire damage strikes, we can come in and help to restore your home as best as possible. When it comes to fire damage, often, there’s not that much you can do. However, there are some steps you can take to be as prepared as possible for fire season.
Separate Your Home From What May Catch Fire
We’ve found that many folks don’t realize all that’s around their home which could potentially lead to a fire. For example, if you have trees with overhanging or even potentially dead branches, those can pose a real problem. That’s the kind of thing that can catch on fire. A good rule of thumb: keep any and all branches at least ten feet away from your chimney as well as from other trees on your property. In fact, look for “dead” signs of plant life: vegetation that’s died, pine needles, dry leaves, and the like: remove them. Don’t just remove them from your yard, remove them from your roof and even your gutters, too. You’ll be glad you did.
Safe from Smoke
During fire season, it’s entirely likely that plenty of us will go through smoky days. Smoke can pose any number of health problems for you and your family, too (even if there’s no fire anywhere nearby). Moreover, smoke can damage your property, too. When you see smoke, close the windows and doors and crank up the AC, fans, or even ice packs to keep cool.
Be Prepared in Case You Have to Evacuate
Hopefully, fire season never gets anywhere near your home and this time passes for you without incident. However, it behooves all homeowners who may have to deal with fires to have a bag ready to go should they need to evacuate in a hurry. In that instance, you won’t have a lot of time to pack. So, keep your important documents together as well as cash, preferably in small bills. Physical maps are a great idea and you may even want to mark the routes out of your neighborhood ahead of time. Any medications, first-aid supplies, phone, chargers, wallet, purse, keys, flashlight, a portable radio, and computer – those are all good things to have in the worst-case scenario.
